Creative writing: 642 Things to Write About.

Best book ever! It is by The San Francisco Writers' Grotto and is a collection of random things to write about. This one starts out: "One day a young boy climbs a tree and decides he won't come down until his parents stop their divorce proceedings. Write about the event from the point of view of each parent."

May ran out the back door after her son. He had done it again! Why couldn't her husband see the pain he is putting the family through? Divorce wasn't her idea. It was David's. He seemed convinced that divorce was the only option. Only option?! Hump! He hadn't even considered counseling. It was just like David to write off other options that may cause him to express his feelings. He was just like his stubborn father. Always making a quite decision and then never budging from it. May's thoughts were brought back to the present when she saw her ten year old son climbing up their oak tree. May went to the tree and looked up.
"Matthew, I'm sorry we were arguing in front of you. It's just that mom and dad have some things we need to work out."
Silence.
"Honey, Why don't you come down and we will talk about it?"
Silence still.
"Matthew, you have to understand. Bad things happen and we have to learn to deal with it. We talked to you about this weeks ago. We thought you understood."
"Well I don't!" a small, indignant voice spoke from above.
"Come down, Matthew. I can't continue to yell up this tree all day."
"No! I won't come down until you and dad make up and are together again!"
May sighed and shook her head.

David watched from the kitchen window as May tried to talk their son down.
